The Municipality has suspended three employees who were arrested on Tuesday 24 January 2023 for their alleged involvement in copper cable theft. The employees aged between 34 and 61 are stationed in the Municipality electrical division. The three were each given R2000 bail and they will appear in court on 24 February 2023. The Municipality condemns this criminal activity which is worsening the current challenge of loadshedding and taking the Municipality backwards. The Municipality experienced an increase in the theft of electrical cables since last year and according to information from the police, the suspects were linked through vehicles that were captured on CCTV footage and a witness statement. The Municipality is against any form of criminality and is of the view that the law must take its course and justice must be served for the people of Lephalale who are negatively affected by this criminal activities.
