Lephalale Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Moloko Jack Maeko has urged communities to work together through their elected leaders. Maeko emphasised the importance of councillors working together to ensure Lephalale Municipality achieves its set and desired goals.
“Elections are over and now it’s the time for people to get service delivered as promised during campaigns. Different political parties promised to deliver certain serviced as per their manifestos during campaigns. Now it is no longer about their political parties’ manifestos but IDP, which guides the municipality where to go”, said Maeko.
He made an example of a recent viral photo depicting EFF Commander In Chief Julius Malema, National Chairperson Dali Mpofu, DA’s and Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille and ANC’s and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa who were in a jubilation for Winnie Madikizela Mandela’s eightieth (80) birthday.
Maeko said that is indicative of the fact that leaders from different political parties can work together irrespective of their differences. He said Madikizela Mandela is a mother figure who connected powerful leaders from opposing political parties and that should be likened to delivery, where such leaders will work with one goal in mind, to deliver.
“This Representative Forum is also important as it takes place a day after the Premier of Limpopo announced a reshuffle of the Provincial cabinet that shifted MEC Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana from transport to Agriculture to fill the vacant position of the late MEC Joy Matshoge; and MEC Nandi Ndalane moved from Sports, Arts and Culture to transport and community safety. Member of Provincial legislature, Mme Onicca Moloi becomes MEC for Sports, arts and Culture. We believe this move will provide effective and efficient service deliver to our people. Today is a very important day which will determine how our municipality is going to conduct its service delivery mandate for the coming five years. We all know that chapter 5 of Municipal Systems Act requires a municipality to undertake a developmentally-orientated planning to ensure that it strives for the achievement of the objects of local government as set out in section 152 of the Constitution and give effect of the developmental duties
required by section 153 of the Constitution. Together with other organs of state, the municipality is expected to contribute to the progressive realization of the fundamental rights that are contained in the
Constitution”, said Maeko before he introduced newly elected councilors, who will be working hand-in-hand with municipal officials and stakeholders represented. This, he says is to ensure that services are delivered to people as promised during election
campaigns.
